BUILDING A ROAD

-The start of every road building project is clearing all organic matter from the building area, this includes vegetation and heavily organic soil.

-Next we grade the subbase and compact it, then install geofabric (if specified) which prevents the fine material in the subbase from combining with the road material; this also spreads the road footprint out to prevent settling.

-After the geofabric we begin installing our base, this is typically Pit Run which consists of large (6-10") rock all the way down to sand. The amount of material varies by the design and requirements of the county, city & fire districts but typically is between 8-16" thick.

-After the base is installed and compacted we install 3/4" Road Mix which acts as our driving surface OR a smooth well compacting surface for the installation of concrete or asphalt.

-Throughout this process we must compact & condition with moisture to allow all of the particles to smoothly interlock as tight as possible, this is done with a water truck that periodically sprays down the area.

-The final product is a perfectly crowned road that is compacted to 95% proctor or better.

-A gravel road that has proper drainage will last for years without developing potholes, drainage is key for a long lasting gravel road.
